One of most important ceremonies of Judaism held on Poklonnaya Hill during 65th anniversary of Victory On 10 May in the course of celebration of the 65th anniversary of Victory over Nazism and the memory of the heroes and victims of World War II the Memorial Synagogue on Poklonnaya Hill held the ceremony of making a Sefer Torah. The solemn meeting was established by the Euro-Asian and the Russian Jewish Congress. The Sefer Torah is a joint gift of Alexander Mashkevich, president of the Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) and Yuri Kanner, president of the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC).

Patriarch Kirill speaks on "Restore dignity" project by RJC The Russian Jewish Congress expands cooperation with public institutions, national and religious structures. In the course of this movement inter-faith dialogue between the RJC and the Russian Orthodox Church is developing. The letter of its primate, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Kirill, addressed to President of the RJC Yuri Kanner, in particular said: "Thank you for your letter offering cooperation in the project "Restore dignity", which aims to help preserve the memory of innocent victims of nazism in former Soviet Union..."

Russian Jewish Congress involves new donators President of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner warmly thanks all those who read the flyer (attached paper with text) and made a charitable donation having received the traditional box of matzo on Passover. The idea to include a flyer with congratulations in a festive box with matzo was realized for the first time. Now we are happy to announce that the idea has been successful and brings first results.

Jewish communities mark the Day of Holocaust and Heroism On 11 April 2010 the Russian Jewish Congress in cooperation with the Cultural Centre of the Embassy of Israel in Russia held a memorial evening devoted to the Day of the Holocaust and the Heroism of European Jewry in the memorial synagogue on Poklonnaya Hill. The evening was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of state of Israel to the Russian Federation Anna Azari and president of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner.

Exhibition "Pales of settlement" opens in Moscow On 13 April 2010 in the Marble Hall of the M. I. Rudomino Library of Foreign Literature under support of the Russian Jewish Congress opened exhibition “Pales of Settlement”. By the idea of the manager of the exhibition, Vice-President of the RJC Sergei Ustinov and its curator Leonid Livonia, the project could serve as a basis for a museum of Jewish history in Moscow.

Holocaust and Heroism Day International Holocaust Remembrance Day was established by the UN General Assembly on 1 November, 2005 (Resolution ¹60/7). The date 27 January was chosen because on that day Soviet troops liberated the Auschwitz concentration camp. However, the need for a memorial day to commemorate victims of Nazism was clearly felt by the Jews throughout the world long before...

Visiting session of Executive Board of RJC to take place in St. Petersburg On April 9 2010 the board and branch of the Russian Jewish Congress to perform visiting session in St. Petersburg under the chairmanship of President of the Congress Yuri Kanner. It will also feature a member of the Presidium of the RJC Mikhail Fridman. The subject of the session is "Role of the RJC in the development of the Jewish community in Russia.

20th anniversary of Pyatigorsk Jewish community Russian Jewish Congress congratulates all members of the Pyatigorsk Jewish community "Geula" and distinguished rabbi Shertil Shalumov with 20th anniversary of the revival of community life! Statement of the Russian Jewish Congress in connection with explosions in Moscow metro Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) is shocked by terrorist attacks in the Moscow metro on March 29 that killed and wounded dozens of people. We certainly condemn the initiators of the bombings. Terrorist actions against innocent civilians can not be exused by any purposes of political, ideological or religious nature.

“Jewish bookshelf will remain…” M. I. Rudomino All-Russian library for foreign literature and Association “Bridges of Culture/Geshaim” supported by sponsors that include the Russian Jewish Congress held a formal meeting for launching “20th anniversary of returning Jewish book in Russian language to Russia” project. In the course of the project a book exhibition had been opened, and auditorium including lectors from Moscow and Jerusalem universities was established.

RJC and Lipman School discussed forms of cooperation President of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner met director of educational center ¹1311 “Tkhia” Grigory Lipman to discuss perspectives of cooperation. The Congress considers development of Jewish education in Russia one of its top priorities and allocates over 1 million dollars from its budget in 2010 on these needs.

RJC congratulates rabbi Pinhas with receiving Russian citizenship Russian Jewish Congress heartily congratulates Chief Rabbi of Moscow, head of Rabbin court of CIS and Baltic states, one of the RJC founders Rabbi Pinhas Goldschmidt with receiving Russian citizenship. We are sincerely glad that the man who contributed 20 years of his life to work to the prosperity of Russian Jewish community became citizen of our country.

RJC and MRJC celebrated Purim On 28 February Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) and Moscow Religious Jewish Community held a celebration on Purim, the most joyful Jewish holiday, at one of Moscow restaurants. The meeting included nearly 200 visitors. The meeting started with the greeting of Chief Rabbi of Russia A. Shaevich and president of the Russian Jewish Congress Y. Kanner.

Vladimir Motyl: In memoriam Russian Jewish Congress expresses deep condolences to relatives and loved ones of outstanding russian film director Vladimir Motyl. His contribution to the developement of cinematography is out of question. His works always brought tears and laughter. People watched his films again again, bought it to home collections. People show these films to children growing up in modern times. The movies became classic.

President of the RJC takes part in the International Jewish Conference in RSA President of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner has participated in the Conference of presidents of leading Jewish organizations of the USA and Euro-Asian Jewish Congress (EAJC) in the RSA as a part of the joint delegation. The delegation was headed by the EAJC leader Alexander Mashkevich and president of the Conference Alan Solow. The mission also included representatives of the World Jewish Congress, NCSJ, B'nai Brith, HIAS and several other Jewish organizations from America.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day in the Jewries of Russia Over 25 Jewries in Russia gave response to the proposal the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) President Yuri Kanner to hold memorial events to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. From 24 till 31 January memorial meetings took places in Bryansk, Velikiy Novgorod, Vladikavkaz, Vladimir, Volgograd, Voronezh, Ivanovo, Kazan, Kaliningrad, Kaluga, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Penza, Perm, Pskov, Ryazan, Rostov-on-Don, Samara, St. Petersburg, Saratov, Smolensk, Stavropol, Tambov, Ulyanovsk, Tula.

RJC strenghtens cooperation with Russian regions In accordance with the UN resolution January 27 is the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2010 at the initiative Russian Jewish Congress this day was distinguished by many regional departments and communities. Washington Holocaust Museum director visited Museum of Jewish Heritage and Holocaust on Poklonnaya Hill 2 February 2010 the Museum of Jewish Heritage and Holocaust in the Memorial Synagogue on Poklonnaya Hill has been visited by the Washington Holocaust Museum delegation headed by the Museum director Sarah J. Bloomfield. The visitor list featured Paul Shapiro – the Wahington Museum Research Institute director and Vadim Altskan – head of archive programs.

The Holocaust memorial day in Krasnodar On 27 January Krasnodar held three memorial events to the Holocaust victims: the Union of underage fascist concentration camps prisoners held the meeting in the Hall of Officers, Council of the Great Patriotic War veterans in the Hall of Scientists and Engineers, and the Jewish social organizations joint with E. D. Felicin State museum of history and archeology.

Memorial meeting held in Kaliningrad 31 January 2010 people from Kaliningrad region have gathered to mourning meeting tribute to 65th anniversary of “death march” – the last act of Holocaust - near Memorial Stone (where monument to the victims of Holocaust will be installed) in Yantarnyi. The meeting featured citizens of Kaliningrad and other cities of the regions, the representative from Kaliningrad region Government, the head of Yantarnyi city administration, consul general of Poland and Germany, representatives of local and foreign mass media, and public associations of the region.

Israel Defense Forces officers visit Moscow Group of officers of Israeli Defense Forces have visited the Memorial Synagogue on Poklonnaya Hill on 29 January 2010. Journey to Moscow was the reward for young officers who distinguished themselves and knew Russian. All the participants passed careful screening process. They represented all IDF services and elite units.

The Russian Jewish Congress celebrated Hanukkah three times This year even three ceremonial events devoted to Hanukkah were held with the participation and assistance of the Russian Jewish Congress. The resulting celebration was quite varied and many members of the Jewish community were able to take part in it – businessman, religious community organizations activists, and students of Jewish schools.

"The dream has come true" On December, 3, 2009, in the “Jewish house” in Tula were opened a synagogue and a mikvah built with the assistance of the Russian Jewish Congress. Aba Duner, the head of the Conference of European Rabbis, who attended the opening ceremony, confessed that “he couldn’t believe his eyes – so miraculous it was.” “It’s an unforgettable and wonderful day”, added Charlotte, his wife.

The 20th anniversary of the founding congress of Vaad USSR On December, 2, in Moscow a number of events took place devoted to the 20th anniversary of the founding congress of Vaad USSR – the first all-union legal independent Jewish organization. In the morning the anniversary convention of the Federation of Jewish Organizations and Communities – Vaad of Russia – was held in Moscow Jewish theatre “Shalom”.

Ghetto prisoners cherish the memory of Holocaust On January, 27, in the Memorial synagogue on Poklonnaya hill was held a solemn event dedicated to the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
