Batya Gur. Murder on a kibbutz. Text, 2009. Translated by K. Lukyanenko

It is another puzzle from the famous Israeli crime writer Batya Gur (1947–2005), whom Russian readers know by her novels “The Saturday Morning Murder” and “A Literary Murder”. She is one of the most popular Israeli crime writers; her books were translated into many European languages. Gur’s novels reveal different aspects of Israel life and keep readers in suspense till the very end.

The murder as always is investigated by Michael Ohayon, a melancholic handsome intellectual. The psychological detective story follows the classical rules of the genre: the crime is committed in a closed rural community – in a kibbutz, where everybody knows everyone and feels themselves belonging to one family. Jealousy, old scores, political battles – in the end, everything will be out and real life, which is far from being idyllic, will show up.
